The Autry offers free admission on the second Tuesday of each month, so the Rich Pix crew decided to pop over for a look. I must say we were very impressed, so much so, that Sir Rich even got into the spirit of things by dressing up as a cowboy!

Of course, he was promptly thrown into the local lockup!

If you’ve read our previous posting about the Museum of the American West, you know all the wonderful exhibits to see. I loved the Gatling gun and western pistols exhibit, but then that’s just me.

I learned a lot about life in the Old West from the historical dioramas scattered around the expansive museum.

We grew up with Westerns. Tom Mix, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Gene Autry were our heroes. They came into our homes and our hearts in their television shows. Remember the Lone Ranger and Tonto, how about Roy’s horse Trigger and Tonto’s stead Scout?

Then there were the famous John Wayne Westerns directed by John Ford in some of the most magnificent scenery north of the Rio Grande. Remember seeing Stagecoach, Fort Apache and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon?

I still love Western weekends on television, especially The Young Riders and The Magnificent Seven. Of course, you can always find reruns of The Lone Ranger and Roy Rogers.

We all wanted to be cowboys and cowgirls growing up. So the neighborhood kids would form a posse and whoop it up around the neighborhood!

The Autry Museum brings the silver screen and the small screen to life with their homage to our childhood idols. Such fond memories!

Why not make new memories of your own? It’s only a short drive away in Griffith Park.
