“Once a year rail fans from all over the country come together in the Southern California city of Fullerton for a weekend filled with railroad history and unique opportunities.
“Sponsored by Amtrak, the event is set at the Fullerton railroad depot—the perfect backdrop for experiencing the monstrous scale of the working locomotive brought in especially for this occasion.
“One of the locomotives in particular, Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe #3751, is a crowd favorite. This fully-restored and operational 4-8-4 Northern class steam engine brings with it a rich history of passenger train service rooted in the western United States. Visitors are treated to an up-close view of this iconic example of steam era railroading.
“Other examples of real railroad equipment on display include a modern General Electic ES44C4 diesel locomotive, and the Ernest S. Marsh, a 2-4-0 narrow gauge steam locomotive from the Disneyland theme park.
Tips for Visitors
“Here are some tips to help make your experience a pleasant one.
“Railroad Days takes place in the parking lot adjacent to the depot, however there is a parking garage within 50 yards of the event entrance. It’s located at the corner of Pomona Ave/Santa Fe Ave. Free street parking is also available.
“Keep in mind that this business district will also have the normal bustle of weekend shoppers. Early birds are sure to have no problem parking.
“There are a few food booths within the event. Try nearby restaurants for more variety. Suggestions on Commonwealth Ave within 1 block walking distance from the venue:
- Chomp Rockin’ Sushi & Teppan Grills
- Izakaya Kopan Ramen
- Hopscotch Craft Beer & Whiskey
- Kentro Greek Kitchen
Enjoying the Event
“This is an outdoor event without much shade. Remember to drink plenty of water and take breaks often. There is plenty to see, so pace yourselves.
“The model railroad displays are under one very large tent. There won’t be any seating available, but it’s a good place to get out of the sun.”
