Long Beach residents are in for a ‘Dutch treat’ from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. April 30, at Shoreline Aquatic Park. You know you are at a Dutch event, when surrounded by people decked out in phenomenal orange attire to celebrate the birthday of King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands.

This family friendly, outdoor event features typical Dutch street food like, kroketten, bitterballen (bread crumbed meat-based snack roll or ball), patat friet (Dutch fries with different toppings), ‘Hollandse haring’ (raw herring flown in from Holland), poffertjes (Dutch mini pancakes), all kinds of home baked Dutch cookies like stroopwafels and imported prepackaged delicacies.
You’ll also find Indonesian street food (part of Dutch culinary heritage) like satay and lumpia. Once you’ve had a taste, you may want to explore more of Dutch cuisine at home with the recently released cookbook Indo Dutch Kitchen Secrets, the first Indo Dutch heritage cookbook in English by Jeff Keasberry – available at the fair.
